JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title Community Oral Health Officer
Department Clinical
Immediate Supervisor Hospital Director / Hospital Operations Manager
ROLE SUMMARY
This Community Oral Health Officer is responsible for diagnosing, examining and managing dental patients. They will ensure that all dental-related services in the hospital are conducted in adherence to hospital policies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
1. Perform authorized dental procedures including cleaning teeth, removing plaques, replacing missing
teeth, filling cavities, rebuilding of broken teeth and removing severely damaged teeth in a safe and sterile environment while providing a quality dental experience during the procedure.
2. Prepare treatment rooms, instruments and tray setups for dental procedures.
3. Conduct dental health education to patients.
4. Offer counsel to patients who require reassurance.
5. Implement and adhere to infection prevention protocols including autoclaving instruments after use,
cleaning the dental procedure’s space and storage of the clean instruments.
6. Analyze dental x-rays and evaluate dental needs as necessary including medical history review and
dental charting.
7. Treat and follow up with patients to prevent the worsening of dental diseases.
8. Provide instruction on dental care and write prescriptions for patients.
9. Assist the Dental surgeon in procedures and conduct procedures under supervision by the surgeon.
Health Workforce
1. Attend C.P.D accredited Continous Medical Education and training both internal and external quarterly.
2. Prepare and present in departmental Continous Medical Education and Attend External online Continous Medical Education for personal development
3. Fill and submit daily/weekly/annual Balance score card to the immediate supervisor.
4. Discuss individual performance in the balance scorecard monthly with the supervisor.
5. Compliance with the KMPDC requirements.
6. Compliance with the hospital policies and processes.
7. Attend departmental meetings.
8. Sharing of individual evaluation reports.
Information Technology
1. Complete all preauthorization forms and insurance claim forms.
2. Enter accurate patient biodata, vital signs, history and treatment given in the Hospital Management Information System.
3. Share accurate Daily and monthly health information data/ statistics extracted directly from Hospital Management Information
4. Schedule patients for root canals.
5. Maintain dental files for all patients.
6. Dental department record keeping.
7. Prepare individual weekly /monthly reports.
Financial
1. Filling preauthorization forms and insurance claim forms to minimize rejections.
2. Attend outreaches and dental medical camps to drive outpatient numbers.
3. Dental offers to grow cash clients
4. Real-time billing of all procedures in the system and preauthorization should be done for all insurance clients.
5. before all procedures are done.
6. Ensure maximum utilization of the departmental equipment.
Supplies and technology
1. Prepare and submit dental consumable consumption reports monthly.
2. Share out-of-stock items report daily with the supervisor.
3. Manage inventory of the equipment and supplies at the dental unit, including preparing orders as needed to avoid stock-outs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education:
● Diploma in Community Health or any other related dental course.
● Valid Dental Practicing License.
● Registered by the Oral Health Association of Kenya.
Experience:
● Minimum of 2 years of working experience as a COHO.
