JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title Cleaner
Department Hospitality
Immediate Supervisor Nurse In-Charge
ROLE SUMMARY

This position will maintain a clean, sanitary, comfortable and tidy environment within the hospital.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service delivery
1. Mop floors and wipe surfaces in all rooms within the hospital.
2. Wipe, clean walls, ceilings, touchable electrical appliances, window guards, and remove cobwebs from the surfaces in the rooms.
3. Remove and dispose of garbage as per public health and sanitation policies and practices of the hospital.
4. Draw window curtains, open and shut windows in hospital rooms, wards, offices in the hospital.
5. Remove used bedding material, replace them.
Medical Supplies and Technology
1. Maintaining inventory of linen and other instruments.
2. Clean, sort, fold and store laundry as per the laundry SOP.
3. Report any broken cleaning tools and equipment to your Supervisor for the appropriate maintenance action.
4. Request for cleaning tools, equipment, and materials such as soap, detergents, and deodorants from the Supervisor.

Health Workforce

1. Participate in the monthly evaluation and appraisal process.
2. Attend professional training as internally targeted.
3. Attend Work Improvement Meeting as defined in the department.
4. Participate in all departmental meetings and training.

Health information system
1. Use the system generated data for inventory tracking in the department.
2. Prepare reports as requested by your departmental head.
3. Document all activities in the Hygiene and Laundry as per the department’s needs.

Leadership and Governance.

1. Attend departmental meetings.
2. Participate in leadership and mentoring programs as guided by departmental heads.
3. Lead various sections of the department as directed by the head of department.
4. Report any incidents to your supervisor for action.
5. Adhere to guidelines set by the hospital.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education:

● K.C.S.E Certificate

Experience:

● Minimum of 1 years as a steward.
● Previous hospital experience is preferred but not essential.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
● Ability to handle cleaning equipment.
● Ability to work under pressure.
● Ability to work odd hours and odd days.
