Position Title Nurse
Department Nursing
Immediate Supervisor Nurse In-Charge
ROLE SUMMARY
The main role for this position is to assess patients’ health problems and needs, develop and execute nursing care plans, and uphold medical records.
The ideal candidate is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of patient care under indirect supervision from senior staff. The goal is to promote patient’s well-being by providing high quality nursing care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service Delivery
1. Utilize the nursing process in planning and execution of patient care.
2. Carry out infection prevention and control activities as stipulated in the Infection Prevention Control guidelines and policies.
3. Maintain patient safety standards and offer safety consciousness care.
4. Triage patients as per triage guidelines and adhere to triage Turn around time.
5. Take care of patients pre and post-operatively as stipulated in the peri operative policies and guidelines.
6. Provide emergency care to patients and observe all emergency protocols during care delivery.
7. Support and adhere to all hospital processes such as patient admission, discharge and doctors ward round among others.
8. Implement primary care nursing using the primary care model principles.
9. Maintain and handover departmental instruments as required , checking to ensure functionality and reporting any breakdown by use of an incident report.
10. Offer immunization services to clients and observe principles of cold chain maintenance.
11. Resolve all customer complaints within your level and timely escalate those above your level.
12. Offer quality maternal child health by adhering to maternal child healthcare guidelines, policies and procedures.
13. 13. Follow-up patients to remind them of their MCH/FP clinics as defined in the nursing department.
Health information system
1. Utilize the Health Management Information System in preparing daily reports and other reports as requested.
2. Document patient care services by charting and using electronic medical records systems.
3. Ensure completeness and accuracy of patient data.
4. Use the system generated data for inventory tracking in the nursing department.
Health Workforce
1. Attend continuous medical education.
2. Participate in monthly evaluation and appraisal process.
3. Attend professional trainings as targeted.
4. Number of Continuous professional development points as required by the governing body.
5. Attend Work Improvement Meeting as defined in the department.
Leadership and governance
1. Attend departmental meetings and other meetings called upon.
2. Participate in leadership and mentoring programmes as guided by departmental heads.
3. Lead various sections of the department as delegated/appointed by the head of department.
4. Participate in incident management as required by hospital policy.
5. Participate in hospital nurse covering programmes as planned on a monthly basis.
Access to essential medicine and medical supplies;
1. Checking the stock on a regular basis to maintain inventory levels, and placing orders if required.
2. Participate in preparation of consumption reports.
3. Manage drugs and consumables in emergency trolleys as per the hospital policy on management of emergency trolleys.
4. Report all out of stock items for action.
5. Order medication, medical and non-medical supplies by use of the system.
Health care financing
1. Bill all nursing consumables, products and services.
2. Participate in cost management activities.
3. Work towards meeting financial targets set in different nursing department revenue lines.
4. Come up with new services and products.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education:
● Diploma in KRCHN, KRN or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized institution.
● Certificate in Basic Life Support.
● Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is an added advantage.
● Must have a valid nursing practicing license.
● Computer literacy.
Experience:
● Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Nursing officer.
● Experience in midwifery and theater nursing will be an added advantage.
