JOB DESCRIPTION
Position title Theater Technician
Department Clinical
Immediate supervisor Nurse In-Charge
ROLE SUMMARY
The Theatre Technician will assist the surgeon in performing surgical activities and perform other duties as
allocated by the in charge. Act as a team member in providing care as per
established standards. To promote and maintain caring and highly professional
standards of care, meeting the needs of the patients in all aspects and promoting
job satisfaction for the nursing team. The Theatre Technician will treat the patient
with dignity, respect his/her privacy at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service delivery

1. Prepare Operating Theatre and perform required safety checks as per the
policy.
2. Prepare Surgical Equipment/ Instruments as per the policy.
3. Prepare surgical supplies and ensure all required items are available in
the operating room.
4. Assembling and checking equipment/instruments and ensure they are
working.
5. Maintain nursing quality assurance standards.
6. Maintain infection control practices and standards and be involved in the
same as required by the infection control policy.
7. Participate in the organization wide and nursing orientation
programme in place.
8. Be observant of the patients during surgical procedures and report to the
surgeon/anesthetist as appropriate.
9. Ensure the prescribed medical treatment is provided as prescribed or
appropriate.
10. Take responsibility for patient safety and participate in monitoring surgery
and for ensuring maintenance of accurate records/ documentation.
11. Make sure that all information concerning patients and their treatment
remain confidential at all times.
12. Ensure and safeguard the hospital /patients and equipment from damage,
wastage or loss.
Health information system

1. Utilize the Health Management Information System in preparing daily reports and other reports as requested.
2. Document patient care services by charting and using electronic medical records systems.
3. Ensure completeness and accuracy of patient data.
4. Use the system generated data for inventory tracking in the theater department

Health Workforce

1. Attend continuous medical education.
2. Participate in the monthly evaluation and appraisal process.
3. Attend professional training as targeted.
4. Attend Work Improvement Meeting as defined in the department.
Leadership and governance
1. Attend departmental meetings and other meetings called upon.
2. Participate in leadership and mentoring programmes as guided by departmental heads.
3. Lead various sections of the department as delegated/appointed by the head of department.
4. Participate in incident management as required by hospital policy.

Health care financing

1. Bill all consumables, products and services.
2. Participate in cost management activities.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education
● Certificate in Theater Technology from an accredited facility.
● Computer literacy is an added advantage.

Experience

● Minimum of 1 year experience as a Theater Technician.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITIES
● Must have a strong commitment to compassionately care for patients and general customer service.
● Must have good communication skills.
